Global sadhana has begun

It’s day 3 of the 40-day global sadhana to release fear and become a conscious leader. This global sadhana challenges the participants with a 31-minute daily meditation (demonstrated above). It’s quite intense. Like many kriyas, it requires the practioner to dig deep and push beyond any mental blockages.

Just. Keep. On.

YT: ‘Tis the full moon

Friday, September 24, 2010

Yesterday was the full moon.

I set my intention on release, clearing and cleansing. I decided to practice yoga and then sage the house. But I realized I had given all of my bundles of sage to Josh’s friend- to burn with his papers before he left for Sweden. Huh.

All I had left was a leaf or two that came with crystals. Max and I enjoyed burning those. Then, we went for a walk.

We were walking down the trail at quite a clip. The gravel trail can rock him to sleep if I go fast enough. I establish my stride in the initial stretch- full of huge, barking dogs in the yards facing it.

Must race past them if he’s going to sleep.

I glanced down at my shoes as we were cruising along.

I saw a sage branch.

I could hardly believe it. I stopped and went back to pick it up and smell it.

Yep! It was sage- about 15 or 20 times what I had just burned. So, I put it in the stroller and smiled and said, Hari, Hari.

“Sadhana: Trauma or mistreatment by parents or caretakers can be healed or altered through what is known in Sanskrit as sadhana, which means an effort exercised toward achievement of purpose or practice. While the literal translation of sadhana sounds mechanical, it implies a practice of a healing nature. In the tantric tradition, sadhana refers to the path of liberation. Meditating, Reiki, gardening, playing basketball, singing, and yoga are all examples of sadhana that could lead to deep levels of healing with the correct intention- that is, when a person engages in these activities with the purpose of reconnecting to their inherent power.”

YT: A new day, a new way

I see a pattern forming here… each time I’ve had a “yogini tale” to tell, certain elements remain the same: this girl [walking/running/wandering] outdoors with her trusty jogging stroller and her favorite little man.

I’ve often joked that I wish that stroller had an odometer. I’m sure the mileage would be shocking- hundreds of miles, if not a thousand. As a full-time mama of an always active boy, putting Maxim in the stroller and hitting the road was my only ‘me’ time. We would walk more than 10 miles some days.

From our last house, it was a quick and easy walk to a trail that leads directly to the beach- less than 3 miles each way. The nearest playground was just as far… uphill. So, day after day, we walked and walked. We even began to run, something that I had always told myself I couldn’t do. Didn’t even want to. We became such a good team that we entered our very first 5K last year.

Then, a strange thing happened. We moved to a new house. A great new house with a playground in the neighborhood and a big park just a mile away. We did most of our training at the long track that encircles the park. It was convenient, if somewhat boring.

The thing is that our new house is about twice as far from the beach and is very inconveniently positioned with regards to accessing our beloved bike trail. It’s a much farther hike to get to an access point, which in itself is fine, but the scenery… well, asphalt, strip malls, crosswalks, gas stations. Not my favorite. A dealbreaker? Not entirely. A deterrent,? Yes.

The best part of the trip is the very beginning, passing in front ofΒ one of California’s famed Missions. Sometimes we would even walk the grounds before heading out into the concrete jungle. There is a road that runs along the western side of the Mission that ends with a barricade. I always wondered where it led, but I never followed it. There are areas of the Mission that are not open to the public. I assumed it led to one of those… hence the barricade.

On the first day of the new year, my boys and I decided to go for a walk. When it comes to the men in my house, they always have their own ideas about what to do and how to do it. We walked over to the Mission and cut across the front of the parking lot- leading right over to the barricade. Now, I am the type of person that sees a barricade and expects that it’s there for a reason. My boys? Not so much. We kept walking around the barricade and followed the road down a little hill.

And what do you know?? It cut through to a residential area very near the entrance to the trail. No strip malls. No gas stations. No red lights and traffic.

I guess sometimes you just have to push on past the barricade and allow that there might be something awesome just down the hill. Go figure.

Daily reminder

“You have been telling the people that this is the Eleventh Hour.
Now you must go back and tell the people that this is The Hour.

Here are the things that must be considered:

Where are you living?
What are you doing?
What are your relationships?
Are you in right relation?
Where is your water?
Know our garden.
It is time to speak your Truth.
Create your community.
Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for the leader.

This could be a good time!

There is a river flowing now very fast.
It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid.
They will try to hold on to the shore.
They will feel like they are being torn apart, and they will suffer greatly.

Know the river has its destination.
The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off toward the middle of the river,
keep our eyes open, and our heads above the water.

See who is there with you and celebrate.

At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally, least of all ourselves!
For the moment we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to a halt.

The time of the lonely wolf is over.
Gather yourselves!

Banish the word struggle from your attitude and vocabulary.

All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.

We are the ones we have been waiting for.”
