Crystal in the spotlight: Bloodstone

Day 1 of my ‘crystal in the spotlight’ marathon! And it feels so good! Or it may be that I picked up a piece of bloodstone in Oklahoma. It is a powerful healing stone and a blood cleanser. It has a lot of properties that I could use now that I’m hOMe again. It’s a grounding and revitalizing stone- two things I could certainly use after my trip (and also some strange and mysterious nutrition choices I made while on vacation). It’s time to ‘get back’ with the program in more ways than one. So? Revitalizing? Great. Grounding? Sounds perfect.

I also love some of the history associated with this stone, which is actually a combination of dark green jasper and iron oxide. Its name, for instance, derives from the Middle Ages when it was thought that it was created by Christ’s blood dropping onto the green earth. Also, it was known in ancient times as an “audible oracle,” meaning that it gave off sound as a means of guidance.

I only brought a small piece of it home, but Grandma Patsy (you know her, right?) had a mammoth chunk of it on her deck. It was bigger than my head. I spent some time out there admiring it in the last week, and it’s inspired me to learn more about bloodstone.

Wanna hear ’bout it? Here it go.

This cleansing stone is associated with the lower chakras. It grounds, protects, and revitalizes, anchoring us in the present moment. It cleanses the blood and the internal organs located near the lower chakras (detoxing the liver, intestines, kidneys, spleen, and bladder). It also cleanses negative energy.

It grounds both the mental (by calming the mind and lessening confusion) and emotional (by grounding heart energy) bodies.

Welcome, bloodstone! So grateful to have you around!
