Yoga this week!!

We’re going to have a sunny, sunny beach day for yoga tomorrow! Don’t forget to bring your sunscreen!

I will be teaching regular Thursday class tomorrow at 10am. The roses are still looking fine and the hummingbirds are stopping by to say hi. Join me for this gentle, all levels flow. We will focus on connecting with our calm and quiet center and exploring expansiveness via the side body. Sound fun? Be there!

I will also be teaching on Sunday in the park (weather permitting).

See you on the mat!

It is spot on for me… I’m taking this week to focus on balance, clean(s)ing, and gardening leading up to Easter on Sunday. As part of my “detox,” I’m spending very limited amounts of time on the internet, social media, etc. So, without further ado, I present to you…

Crystal in the spotlight: Tiger’s Eye

Do you remember way, way back when I was working my way through a 7-day crystal/chakra healing marathon? We had made it all the way to Day 5 / the throat chakra when my computer went on summer vacation.

To me, the change of seasons is like nature’s reminder alert to slow down and take stock of things. Check in. Whether it’s in my yoga practice, diet, daily meditation, habits, thoughts, emotions, etc.- I boost my efforts to bring change where it is needed by aligning with the energy of change that swells at the solstices and equinoxes.

It’s a time of one phase ending and a new one beginning. Why not follow Mother Nature’s lead to let go of the ‘old’ and welcome the ‘new?’ She pretty much has this whole managing life thing down to a science.

If your chakra health is an area that will have your attention as we approach the fall equinox, healing crystals are a great way to uplift your efforts.

…Which brings me back to the crystal/chakra healing countdown. Who needs a refresher?

Me, too.

1st chakra / root / bloodstone
2nd chakra / sacral / chrysoprase
3rd chakra / solar plexus / malachite
4th chakra / heart / aventurine
5th chakra / throat

And now… let’s resume, shall we?

6th chakra / third eye / tiger’s eye

“Tiger’s Eye combines the earth energy with the energies of the sun to create a high vibrational state that is nevertheless grounded, drawing the spiritual energies to earth. Placed on the third eye, it enhances psychic abilities in earthy people and balances the lower chakras, stimulating the rise of the kundalini energy.

Tiger’s Eye is a protective stone that was traditionally carried as a talisman against ill wishing and curses. It shows the correct use of power and brings out integrity. It assists in accomplishing goals, recognizing inner resources and promoting clarity of intention. Placed on the navel chakra, Tiger’s Eye is excellent for people who are spaced out or uncommitted. It grounds and facilitates manifestation of the will. Tiger’s Eye anchors change in the physical body.”

Mmm… sounds good. Love you, Tiger’s Eye!

Crystal in the spotlight: Aventurine

Day 4 already! You know what that means? The summer solstice is getting near.

Of course, it also means that we’ve worked our way up to the heart chakra in our little ‘crystal in the spotlight’ marathon. And the stone of the day is…? Aventurine! You may have noticed that both chrysoprase and malachite (our two previous crystal superstars) are also strongly connected to the heart. Green is the color of the heart chakra, so many green stones have an association to the heart chakra.

In fact, aventurine can be a variety of colors, and each of these varieties has its own unique properties. Aventurine has a high quartz content, but it is the presence of other minerals that determines its color. Green aventurine, the type that I picked up in Oklahoma, is the most common variety. The green color is produced by the addition of fuchsite to the quartz crystals.

I think that my favorite quality of green aventurine is that it facilitates connection to the devic kingdom, making it a friend of the gardener. Any friend of the gardener is a friend of mine!

Aventurine is another great protection stone, protecting the heart and regenerating heart energy. It also balances male and female energies, and promotes leadership qualities.

On a physical level, aventurine promotes feelings of well-being and heals parts of the body found in the region of the heart and throat (heart, lungs, adrenals, and sinuses).

Here’s to you, aventurine! Welcome to the family!

Weekly wisdom from Doreen Virtue

This week, Doreen is working with the Messages from your Angels oracle deck. I have this deck and it’s one of my very favorites.

I love the card for Monday!! I’ve just been preparing and getting inspired for my class today. Thanks very much for the encouragement, Angels! And thanks for the follow-up counsel as well. I think that’s a very important balance for lightworkers, healers, people in general, etc. We must balance our efforts to heal others with time to nurture ourselves.

Have a great week everyone!!

Yoga help for the holidays

I. Love. Synchronicity.

I’m preparing my class for tomorrow. It’s my birthday, and I get to teach. It’s a gift that I couldn’t have imagined receiving just one year ago. It was about this time one year ago that I sat down and made a list of intentions for the coming year. I wrote them down, said my prayers, and watched things fall into place in such a miraculous way. High on the list… finally get certified to teach yoga. And here I am, one year later, preparing the class I will teach on my birthday.

In gratitude for this wonderful blessing, I wanted to put together a class that honors where I am in my life today while also honoring my students and the spirit of this special season.

We are now 6 days into the 40-day Global Sadhana honoring the Divine Feminine. I am loving connecting with the energy this global community is generating. Each day, I am doing my humble part by finding ways to honor and connect with Mother Earth.

It has been such a powerful practice for me that I wanted to bring that energy into my class this week. The root chakra (muladhara) seemed like a logical place to start. It is the center of physical experience, and its element is earth (its associated shape is the square, which represents the Earth itself).

And then… voilà! This article not only details kundalini practices for developing the root chakra, but also addresses the importance of balancing muladhara during the holiday season.

Thank you, Shakti! Thank you, Ma! I can’t wait to see you at all of my celebrations this year! ♥

Crystal in the spotlight

My true introduction to the healing power of crystals occurred while I was pregnant with my son and living in Sedona, AZ. For that reason (and many others), it is a subject that I hold very dear. I truly believe in their ability to bring healing and positive change when used with the proper intention. Not to mention that, symbolically, crystals and gemstones represent a transition of the everyday rock into a material of higher vibration- one with a purpose. That leap holds great power for me. And so, for all of these reasons, I would like to introduce you to one of my crystal friends… Citrine.

Citrine is a useful stone for several of my areas of prime focus right now: balancing the solar plexus chakra, aligning the subtle bodies with the physical, and aiding in the free flow of emotions.

Citrine is a stone of abundance and attracts wealth and success. It also repels negativity from the individual aura and from group settings- so maybe keep a cluster around for family holiday gatherings. πŸ˜‰

It is also noted for its healing properties on the following levels:

Energetic: It protects the aura and prevents it from absorbing negative energies. It stimulates the crown chakra and balances the solar plexus and sacral chakras.

Emotional: It promotes balance by maintaining a healthy emotional flow and preventing blockages. Since it opens the solar plexus chakra (the joy center), it promotes greater joy and the releasing of ego-based fears.

Psychological: It promotes self-confidence and self-esteem, both of which are associated with a healthy solar plexus chakra. It also aids in maintaining a positive attitude and accepting constructive criticism. For this reason, it is also associated with creativity.

Mental: It helps with focused thought and concentration. It also aids in overcoming negative thought patterns.

Physical: It promotes healthy functioning of the digestive, endocrine, and circulatory systems. It is especially associated with the thyroid, the gall bladder, and the kidneys.

If it is worn on the body, the best positions are either on the fingers or at the throat.

Citrine is also the birthstone for this month, November.

So, that’s my little introduction to my good friend, Citrine. I hope that it inspires you to pick up some citrine and connect with its amazing benefits today.

Daily reminder

“[Y]ou can be a vegetarian and run six miles a day, but if you are in an abusive relationship, or hate your job, or have daily fights with your parents, you are losing energy- or power- in a pattern of behavior that can lead to illness or prevent your healing from an illness. On the other hand, if you are spiritually centered and call back your energy from negative beliefs, you can eat cat food and still stay healthy.”

Practicing gratitude

When I began considering the class I’m teaching this week, I knew right away that I wanted to structure it around the theme of gratitude. Giving thanks.

As I said before, I have recently had a growing awareness of the fundamental importance of maintaining emotional and spiritual health. Since I wrote the post stating my intention to tend to my emotional health and its energetic consequences, I’ve either discovered or re-discovered a multitude of ways to align and balance. One signpost after another pointed to the chakras and the rest of the energetic body as the classroom where I could learn about better health on every level.

Seriously. Every time I asked for guidance since writing that, it was like, ‘Chakras!’… I know but… ‘Chakras!’… but what if… ‘Chakras!’… Ok, ok, chakras!

So, I wasn’t even a little surprised when I asked for help in building my class and the answer was ‘chakras!’ Specifically, the solar plexus chakra (manipura). This is our power center. The center of self and personality. It is also the center of ego-based fear and resistance.

As I began exploring for inspiration and insight, I came across these words of wisdom from Kundalini-Teacher.com:

“The power chakra is fed by the energy of gratitude, which is a powerful kind of surrender. Gratitude is the opposite of fear and resistance. The heart opens to love, the power chakra responds to gratitude. Most karmic stuff will transmute as soon as you can manage to be genuinely grateful for it. Count your blessings, feed your power chakra.”

Not only was I able to build my gratitude class around that powerful idea, I’ve also been working to open and balance my solar plexus chakra each day by practicing gratitude. So, guess how I feel about teaching my class now? Grateful! Funny how that works…
