Yoga this week!

Happy hump day, yoga lovers!

I’m back in action tomorrow with yoga at the beach at 9am. We’ve been having a great time at the beach and being inspired by the sand and surf. Join us tomorrow morning to give it a try!

I will also be teaching my weekly heated class, The Rocket, at Black Sheep Yoga in Oceanside at noon on Friday. Jump on your mat, work up a sweat, and let go of the week in this hour-long recharge.

And at 6pm on Friday, I will be back at Black Sheep for a full moon yoga happy hour. What’s not to love about that?

Finally, I will be wrapping up the week at Black Sheep on Sunday with Yoga 101 at 11am. We will be taking the week off at Sunday yoga at the beach due to the Life Time Triathlon in Oceanside. Best of luck to all the iron men and women who will be competing!

Weekly wisdom from Doreen Virtue

Have things been feeling intense for you lately?

With today’s full moon in Virgo, both Mercury and Saturn in retrograde, and change happening on so many levels right now, you may be feeling unsettled- like it’s time for change in your own, little corner of the world. Doreen picks up on this with her reading this week. She relies on the “Magical Messages from the Fairies” oracle card deck to bring in some light and playful energy and remind us of our own power of positive manifestation.

Bring on the fairies!!

Have a beautiful week, everyone!

10 poses to promote creativity & emotional balance

Since the beginning of October, my yoga goddesses and I have used our weekly yoga practice together to explore different aspects of manifesting our dreams, goals, and intentions. What are the best ways to nurture the seeds we are sowing? How do we pave the way there while staying open to the myriad possibilities present in each moment?

With the arrival of the full moon (it reached its fullest less than an hour after our class), we ushered in the time in the cycle for putting our plans into action. It is the time to “git ‘er done,” as one of my teachers puts it. It is also a time for cleansing, letting go, releasing any excess baggage that impedes our progress.

As I was looking ahead to this week’s class and the full moon, I was simultaneously experiencing cleansing “symptoms” associated with receiving my level II Reiki attunements. It has been (and continues to be) a wild ride- with the most intense symptoms manifesting emotionally. I’ve felt like the “stuff” that I’ve held on to for waaaay too long is shaking loose and forcing its way to the surface. Not always pleasant. Not always fun. But I have been doing my best to at least make it constructive.

I suppose it is the time of the year when the goblins pop up. It’s been weeks since I could walk through the aisles of almost any store without my son being terrified by some beasty or other. My inner child has been dealing with the same thing, I guess. So, I’ve tried to be open to the lessons contained within each situation- good, bad, or beastly- and to stay focused on ways to transmute my goblins into gold.

One of the methods of my madness has been seriously cleaning my house. Don’t you just love a good, cathartic clean? I’ve been cleaning like I can clear emotional debris with a Swiffer.

Spiders, beware! I’ve got your number! No dark corner is safe from this fi-yah!

Ummm… yeah. Transmutation was the word of the day… every day. It couldn’t help but spill over into this week’s class. My students are a talented, creative bunch. There is so much creative power among them that I let that be my inspiration. How can we use our creative gifts and talents to burn through emotional cobwebs? What poses would light the creative fire and transmute emotional goblins into greater presence and wisdom?

When we hold on to baggage for too long, it can “stick” in certain areas of the body. The heart center is one area that gets weighed down by holding on to emotions. The shoulders slump. Breathing becomes more shallow. Backbends! Backbends create opening across the chest and lift the heaviness that many of us carry in our shoulders and chest.

For our purposes this week, however, I chose to focus on another emotional center: the hips. Our hips carry us through life. They support us and help us stand tall. They can also be restricted by emotional build-up.

Hip-opening postures are know to trigger deep emotional release. They are also the category of poses associated with the sacral chakra- the energy center of emotions (its element is water) and creativity.

Lots of hip-openers it is then! You know it. You love it.

Here are 10 poses to promote creativity and emotional balance. I’ve also included a few throat chakra poses (forward bends) to facilitate communicating your creative inspirations outward.

1. “Cradle the baby” Pose
2. Baddha Konasana / Bound Angle Pose
3.Anjaneyasana / Low lunge
4. Utthan Pristhasana / Lizard Pose
5. Uttanasana / Standing Forward Bend
6. Gomukhasana / Cow Face Pose
7. Upavistha Konasana / Wide-Angle Seated Forward Bend
8. Eka Pada Rajakapotasana / One-Legged King Pigeon Pose
9. Paschimottanasana / Seated Forward Bend
10. Apanasana / Knees-to-Chest Pose

Now get on your mat and turn those goblins into creative gold!

Namaste!

It’s in the stars

The unofficial ‘end of summer’ is behind us now. All of a sudden, we’re 4 days into September even though I barely noticed its beginning amid all of the holiday weekend revelry. My family and I marked the holiday by running in a 5K race at Disneyland on Saturday, which was awesome. It was a great start to a fun weekend.

So, now it’s the fourth and your September horoscope is here. Technically, it was there all along- but I wasn’t. I was partying. With Mickey Mouse.

Now that we have that straigtened out, we can look ahead to what’s in the stars for September. We were graced with the rare occasion of a blue moon last month. According to Susan Miller, the full moon on September 29 will be a memorable one as well- and maybe not for the best reasons.

Check out what she has to say about your September horoscope (via AstrologyZone).

What’s your sign?

Phew! Is it the fourth already? I think my brain is still on vacation. I’ll be off on another traveling adventure with my best buddies later this week, and my brain decided to take off the days in between, too. Yaaawn! Blame it on the jetlag.

Actually, I know it is the fourth because today is the full moon and a lunar eclipse in Sagittarius. It means big things for Sagittarians, like myself. See what the eclipse means for your sign as well as the rest of your June horoscope on Susan Miller’s Astrology Zone.

In joy!

It’s the SuperMoon!

Today’s Libra full moon at 12:19pm PDT is a Super Moon! Doesn’t that just sound fantastic?! I liked the sound of it before I even knew what it meant.

Here is an explanation of the Super Moon (via Lightworkers.org):

“The Libra Full Moon on April 6 is the first of five SuperMoons in 2012. A SuperMoon occurs when the Moon is at both perigee—orbiting point closest to Earth and syzygy— in line with the Sun and the Earth. This greatly intensifies the gravitational pull on the tides, tectonic plates and human life. For instance, humans are made of sixty percent water. This gives the Moon tremendous influence over our body, emotions and consciousness.”

Be aware of the Super Moon today! Make it work! ♥

YT: ‘Tis the full moon

Friday, September 24, 2010

Yesterday was the full moon.

I set my intention on release, clearing and cleansing. I decided to practice yoga and then sage the house. But I realized I had given all of my bundles of sage to Josh’s friend- to burn with his papers before he left for Sweden. Huh.

All I had left was a leaf or two that came with crystals. Max and I enjoyed burning those. Then, we went for a walk.

We were walking down the trail at quite a clip. The gravel trail can rock him to sleep if I go fast enough. I establish my stride in the initial stretch- full of huge, barking dogs in the yards facing it.

Must race past them if he’s going to sleep.

I glanced down at my shoes as we were cruising along.

I saw a sage branch.

I could hardly believe it. I stopped and went back to pick it up and smell it.

Yep! It was sage- about 15 or 20 times what I had just burned. So, I put it in the stroller and smiled and said, Hari, Hari.
